Rob,

AFAIK the control channel for the library is part of the drive's sled so
each fiber you connect to a drive also connects to the library. Taking that
into account you should be able to control as many libraries as you want
(within the hba's bandwidth of course).

I have one tape library, with multiple drives, shared by multiple lpars of
IBM i, across two power 8's. VIOS lpar on one rack hosts it to all of
it's lpars of IBM i and has the physical fiber tape card. Similar
situation for the other rack.
Both connect to a SAN switch that supports all four drives.

Here's the catch, the fibers do not connect to the library, they connect
to each of the drives but they still show up as
WRKMLBSTS

Resource Status
TAPGRT01 ACTIVE
TAP01 OPERATIONAL
TAP02 OPERATIONAL
TAP04 OPERATIONAL
TAP03 ACTIVE

So, if I tried to control multiple libraries from one fiber port,
and you connect directly to the drives,
how would it know to put the drives on the other library on to a different
library?
