Ugh, right after I hit send, I realized what you were saying. We're
talking about registration time here. I took it at face value that he said
he joined, but hadn't heard a response. I checked and don't see any post
in the Java400 archive, so you are probably right, that its registration
he's waiting on.

David's time doesn't really dictate how fast someone responds, unless its
David of course.

I have an existing Java job in Eclipse in test system. They asked to
changed one line for the location of a source order file. I did this change
and then it supposed to build automatic. i saved this file. but still it
runs with the previous
source order file. what sort of compile is needed?

btw i joined the java 400 list but not heard back since 5 hours.

Yes better to learn basic java on your desktop first as easier to install
jvm and less risk than trialling on the i.

Also I tried visual c++ in "21 days" awhile ago but got bored after day 6
which took a couple of hours.

HI I am seeing Java for the first time. In the new job, we have IBS
on
the
IBM i. The company orders are coming to a SQL Server via various
Ecomm sites, using FTP or SFTP and EDI. There is a job in SQL Server
that
send these to the IBM i via this IBS Java. Can you direct me please
to
understand code such as: what books are considered the musts.
and so on.

The most important book is the one that matches the version of Java you
will be using. It is a bad idea to learn 'Java in 21 Days' when it was
written for Java 3 and there are much better ways to write Java code
since then.

Where can I learn what each of these sections means as they will
want some changes made soon.

import net.ibs.framework.*;
import net.ibs.framework.db.*;
..
public IASWConnection ASW = null;
public String templateAndParmList = " ";
..

private void TTProcessOrdersFromDi( ){
IVariable tmpTble = new IVariable();
int duplicateOrders = 0;
//fill up temp table with orderId's
..

Get the documentation from IBS.

Most Java projects have documentation called javadoc. Search for the
javadoc for the version of the IBS classes that are on your machine.

I'd be surprised if you need to know Java in order to be able to run
the
Java code that imports orders into DB2 tables, but I've been surprised
before.
