What model disk controller?
The controllers with larger cache will make a huge difference.

BTW
I'm a little disappointed performance wise with our 18 month old P8 machine there was no performance gain compared to the prev P6(7?) .
Is it just my unrealistic expectation (30% performance gain) or something more basic?
