Because the P8 S824 CEC DASD must be controlled by the integrated EJ0J PCIe3 RAID SAS Adapter Quad-port 6Gb x8,
I would like to know how much of a performance difference there would be seen between the EJ0L PCIe3 12GB Cache RAID SAS Adapter vs integrated EJ0J PCIe3 RAID SAS Adapter Quad-port 6Gb x8?
I'm looking for the best possible performance on an R&D LPAR, with a mixture of SSD/HDD.
All SSD is out of the question.
System ASP would be all SSD (hot data), 3.1 TB to start, possibly larger.
ASP2 would be all HDD, (cold data) 25 TB or 36 TB, depending on config option.
The various BRMS tools would be used to force cold data to ASP2, or HDD.
I have several options for this R&D LPAR, which will also be hosting a sandbox LPAR and a DSLO LPAR only used to create DSLO images for OS upgrades.
I've opted not to use the SSD cage, SSD capacity would not be large enough.
Option 1
Place 18 1.7TB 10K RPM SAS in the CEC, ASP2, (lesser used) controlled by integrated EJ0J PCIe3 RAID SAS Adapter Quad-port 6Gb x8
Place 6+ 775GB SFF-2 4k SSD in EXP24S, System ASP, controlled by EJ0L PCIe3 12GB Cache RAID SAS Adapter
This option would result in the best performance with an HDD/SSD mixture, keeping each drive type on separate controllers per recommendation, but also with an extra cost factor.
Option 2
Place 18 1.7TB 10K RPM SAS in the CEC, ASP2, (lesser used) controlled by integrated EJ0J PCIe3 RAID SAS Adapter Quad-port 6Gb x8
Place 6+ 775GB SFF-2 4k SSD in EXP24S, System ASP, also controlled by integrated EJ0J PCIe3 RAID SAS Adapter Quad-port 6Gb x8
This option would give up performance, still allow HDD/SSD mixture, but save the cost of 2 EJ0L.
Option3
Place 6+ 775GB SFF-2 4k SSD in the CEC, System ASP, controlled by integrated EJ0J PCIe3 RAID SAS Adapter Quad-port 6Gb x8
Place 24 1.7TB 10K RPM SAS in an EXP24S, ASP2, (lesser used) also controlled by integrated EJ0J PCIe3 RAID SAS Adapter Quad-port 6Gb x8
Performance should be the same as option 2, would result in larger HDD, ASP2, still allow HDD/SSD mixture, but save the cost of 2 EJ0L.
Any thoughts from the group?
Thank You
