We moved away from the use of SNDDST and use the APIs for sending mail. But doesn't that still need to use SMTP and MSF?

It won't be just vendors... What about IBM and SNDDST. :) There are a lot
of people using that hunk o junk. There's a new command I think I read
about that replaces SNDDST, but I try to stay away from that whole disaster
that is SMTP and MSF on the IBM i.

We deprecated the use of QDLS a few years ago with our software. It's
there still, but not support in the least bit.

QDLS going away is going to be a BIG surprise to not just vendors, but most
shops in general (there's more home written code out there than not).

I'm surprised (well, not really) how many still use it for almost
everything.

That file system is not thread-safe. This can cause many issues depending
on what you use it for.

If you have file shares to /QDLS and you map any other drive to IBM i
before you attempt to map QDLS it will likely fail. This goes back to the
threadsafe problem.

It's slow because it's stored in EBCDIC so everything going in and out of
it via Netserver gets converted.

Anything you can do with it can be done in the IFS.

Sadly there are still vendors that use it because they simply haven't
bothered to hear IBM tell us to 'please stop using it'. Unfortunately
until everyone finds out that it is being removed from the next release,
vendors won't put any effort into moving out of it. Actually some vendors
won't move until there are no more supported releases that still have
Folders and QDLS.
