While you might not be able to access /QNTC/10.11.12.14/ILOVELONGDESCRIPTIVENAMES, it shouldn't keep /QNTC/10.11.12.14/ABC from working. Our Windows team loves OMG long share names, but it doesn't bother me a bit. I just insist they duplicate the shares with shorter names and it works fine.

Yes, that number four is a trippy (child of unmarried parents). Weird that if you are accessing /QNTC/10.11.12.14/ABC Merely the existence of /QNTC/10.11.12.14/ILOVELONGDESCRIPTIVENAMES
will cause your attempt to access ABC to fail. Oh well, affects z-series as well as IBM i (or so I've been told).
This was the straw that broke the camels back as far as us ever using QNTC. No sooner that we'd gen up a new server than someone would create a long share name on it.
