substitution spec, to get all the instances in the whole file? You have
only 1 instance in your example, so it works without this option.

Yes, sed "s/from/to/g" is what would be needed for this to be
implemented properly. I should have used a more robust example, but my
mistake does illustrate the need to be Really Careful when using a regex.
