Then again Infoprint server is a chargeable/keyed item. TS1 is not.

Subject: RE: PDF Transform Services

We have both pieces installed - the "expensive spread" (5722IP1) and the
el-cheapo version that came with V6R1 (5761TS1).

5722IP1 *BASE 5050 IBM Infoprint Server for iSeries
5722IP1 *BASE 2924 IBM Infoprint Server for iSeries
5761TS1 *BASE 5050 IBM Transform Services for i5/OS
5761TS1 *BASE 2924 IBM Transform Services for i5/OS
5761TS1 1 5050 Transform Services - AFP to PDF Transform

IMO, the Infoprint package is much more versatile but it's harder to setup,
tends to be finicky after IPL's and requires more CL work to get output into
the IFS.

The V6R1 version works OK but does not seem to support as wide range of
fonts on AFPDS print files as the Inforprint software.

It also has the annoying fact that the spool file, if converted, is not
retained within the spooling system...in other words, once you set your
OVRPRTF to generate a PDF on the IFS the spooling system writes directly to
the stream file and no spooled report is built/retained.

If your at V6R1 and have *not* been generating PDF's for your users, your
not taking advantage of the systems capabilities.
There's a lot of users that are familiar with PDF's from work sources and
within their home environment. Every iSeries shop should have it installed
and be using it :)

Subject: PDF Transform Services

I am looking at the possibility of requiring that the IBM's free
Transform Services (product 5761TS1 for V6 - 5770TS1 for
V7) be installed for PDF generation so that an update of a product can
dump the clunky and somewhat error prone PDF generation process
currently in use.

The concern is that this might be considered an arduous requirement by
the product's users.

My own belief is that the product is so advantageous that the vast
majority of customers are likely to already have it installed. If they
do not, that they would welcome hearing about it as the most likely
reason for not installing it was likely a lack of awareness of its
existence. People are used to having to spend $s for stuff like that
from IBM.

So - my question is twofold.

1) Do you already have this transform product installed ?

2) If not, would you have any objections to it being a requirement for
a product upgrade ?
