James, I am impressed by your typesetting knowledge. It's clear
you've done at least as much reading as I have, if not done
typesetting work yourself (which I haven't).
I took a semester of graphic arts during my five years at CSU Long
Beach. And because ever since then, I'd wanted unfettered access to
printing equipment, I now spend most of my Saturdays docenting at the
International Printing Museum, in Carson, CA.

I've hand-set a few lines of foundry type in a composing stick, and I
regularly, as part of my docenting duties, use both a Ludlow and a Linotype.
Oh, and I'm a self-taught Xerox Ventura Publisher (DOS/GEM Edition)
expert. Although I've gotten a little bit rusty over the years. If you
have a QuestView manual that's any newer than the old pre-1995 3-ring
version, I did all of the typesetting myself, in VPGEM.
