Subject: RE: HMC 5250 console, 132 column support

Greetings, Couple of things on this thread.

No, today the HMC console does NOT support 132 columns. For many years this
was not a possibility with the emulator that was being used in HMC.
About a year ago with the HMC 810 release, the emulator shipped changed to
leverage the new Access Client Solutions emulator. Now that we are using
this updated emulator as the basis for our HMC console emulator, it is a
"possibility". There are some logistics that we will need to sort out when
it comes to sharing and such. Of course, until we actually give it a try, we
(in the lab) wont know what other issues we encounter but based on what we
know today, it many be possible. As for the requirement, that was rejected
for good reason based on the facts that were available at the time. There
was a requirement from the LUG that was opened in 2011 for this same request
and it had been closed because it was not possible based on the technology
that was being used (at that time - like many thing...time and technology
changed) .

This request for a 132 column console (already supported when using Lan
Console I might add) is on our list (we have had a requirement for this for
8 months or so now - internal tracking record) and will be something we will
consider for a future update once we have sorted through the sharing issues.

Thanks Tim
