Paul:
Being a member of the CAAC is more than going to the Annual Meeting every
year. It's a commitment to cover many of (but not all) the travel costs for
two meetings a year, one at the Annual Meeting and one in Rochester each
winter/spring. It also requires periodic phone conferences and research
time. A CAAC member is expected to have a wide knowledge of the system,
with an emphasis on development and application needs. It's not a trivial
volunteer position to have.
Trivializing the work the CAAC does, it not helpful.

I don't get to COMMON often enough. Drove me bat... crazy that work
wouldn't send me to Indy. Cripes! It's only a 2 hour drive! I haven't got
the money to go by myself.

Sounds like Rob needs to join CAAC.
Whenever I hear that name, it reminds me of Bill the Cat

It's still the volunteers that make the decisions Paul, it's just
enshrined
in the CAAC now.

<< But will COMMON care about "closed" requirements?>>
Back in the old days, volunteers judged the merits of a requirement before
passing them on to IBM. IBM hung on to the requirements after stating
something like "business requirements don't justify doing this".
Just because something is simple doesn't mean IBM is going to allocate
scant
resources to it.

But it is SUCH a simple change. Why should IBM argue it and say use a
regular session?
But will COMMON care about "closed" requirements?

The fact that they closed it does not mean they did it.
As of the latest code for the HMC with latest service packs, still 80
column. Does not matter what emulator you use, it's not going to happen.
5250 emulation is so small a requirement for the HMC given the cloud based
functions etc. they are building in the requirement was most likely
dropped
as not important enough. COMMONs coming up, maybe we can get an audience
with the right folks there.
An argument can be made that the console should not need 132 column
support
since anything but the most basic operations should be done with a
"regular"
session that does have 132 column support. I suspect it's going to be a
long row to hoe......

Somewhere they must have added 132 column support for the HMC 5250 console
because my COMMON requirement 318 was closed by Carl Novit.
However I can't seem to get 132 columns to work.
I am using IBM i Client Access Solutions 1.1.4 build 5063.
I created an HMC console session. Communications, Configure says 27x132.
Uses this device:
Device description . . . . . . . . : DSP010000
Device class . . . . . . . . . . . : *LCL
Device type . . . . . . . . . . . : 3179
Device model . . . . . . . . . . . : 2
However DSPPFM is still only showing 80 columns.
