Virtual printers.
We also do the same for those areas requiring a printer name.

If the OP is "just sure" then that's ok. But we often created a dummy printer to go with the output queue that was only used for stuff which just insisted on a device instead of an output queue, like query/400.

Don't look at the devices. I agree that they match. Do check the OUTQ's
and the writers..
I'll bet he one that isn't processing the copies is configured as a
remote outq and has been started with STRRMTWTR

Switching them around. That's a good idea.

I don't know if the printers firmwares are the same, the customer says
they
were purchased at the same time but that doesn't mean anything.

It might be an interesting experiment to swap the printer outques and
see
if the difference moves, or not. That might tie the problem to the
outque,
or to the hardware configuration and thus be helpful.

I have two laser printers (dont have the models but they are the same).
One listens to the number of copies shown in WRKSPLF one doesn't.

They are both setup as real Devices, not remote outqueues. I've
compared
the device configs, they are identical.

I remember that certain remote outqueues would not support copies. But
this isn't the case for us.

Here is the retrieved source for the two devices.
