I've been using MERGE in RDi using the Database Development

It's fun - but I'm not getting any information back that tells me how
many rows were changed.

I have not yet used MERGE in an RPG program - but if I were doing so
I assume I could check SQLCA to get info back.

Is something like this possible when running statements
interactively?

When I run a straight SELECT statement I get info on the bottom
telling me the total # of records. Would a different editor help?

Might be worth review of the what feedback occurs for the MERGE statement issued in IBM Data Studio, iNav Run SQL, and even Start SQL (STRSQL).

Can I retrieve information after the statement runs?? I've used GET
DIAGNOSTICS in the past - but it can't be run interactively.

Posting the feedback of the dynamic SQL request [e.g. a MERGE] is the domain of the interactive utility that enables the entering of the SQL statement(s) via their user interface; the aforementioned three interfaces, for instance. That is to suggest, the feature that issues the dynamic SQL MERGE request that was entered into the UI would be what might use GET DIAGNOSTICS to obtain extra information about the statement that was [prepared and] executed.

Thus if the RDi Database Development perspective is such a feature\UI, then ask of the feature-providers, that the feedback is presented afterward for a MERGE as apparently they already do for a SELECT; noting however, that the _number of records_ for a SELECT is often just an estimate until all rows have been obtained via FETCH requests.
