Are you saying:

1. EMC don't support copying the VT to any other storage device

That's correct. I first spent some time looking around in the shell and around the web interface and couldn't find anything that would let one export a single tape to another storage device. I was told by our service rep that that is due to the physical vs logical structure of how the data is stored and deduped. While that may be true, since I can dupe to another system or even just restore from it, I believe that they are not providing this type of export on purpose, perhaps for security reasons, but in any case, I was told that it was not supported and that they did not have a direct way to do it.

Some further questions:

1. Do you have a diagram that you could share showing how this is being
done?
No I don't, but the devices just hook up like a tape drive over fiber. The replication is all done internal in the data domains.

2. Is your SAVSYS being written to a Virtual Tape on the Data Domain?
Yes, all of our saves are written to the data domain.

3. Do you then replicate between the 2 VT Libraries using the Data
Domain System Manager?
Yes, we cross replicate the Pools in the Vault (if you're familiar with how they layout the Virtual Tape Library.

Our VAR did most of the configuration as I was not here when it was originally put in place. I configured the cross replication that sends our DR Power 7 saves back to our production side as I wanted it for additional security in the event of a potential disaster at our DR center. It's really quite easy to work with and I really enjoy not having many physical tapes to deal with.
