In the normal backup that is run, we use the STRBKUBRM but I couldn't run
the normal backup to test as it shuts down all the subsystems. We use BRMS
for all backups here whether it is virtual or actual tape.

Thanks again

Yes, normally you don't use the SAVLIBBRM commands. You should be using
STRBKUBRM. That will use a 'control group'. And that control group will
have a policy set with it that will contain things like expiration date,
move policy, etc. With the move policy handling things like putting things
on the PRTMOVBRM so if one of your locations is, say, IRONMTN, it will then
be flagged on that report to be moved to Iron Mountain. And the expired
tapes will be on the report to be recalled from Iron Mountain. I don't mess
with putting a date to ship back on Iron Mountain's website. I use this
BRMS report to know which ones to order back.

Rob and all

I was not feeling well yesterday and was not thinking clearly. I woke up
at
2:30 am and was laying in bed mulling things over and realized what I had
used for a command.

Yes we use BRMS so this morning SAVLIBBRM and it all worked fine. The only
thing I am concerned about is that I used *SYSPCY for media policy and on
the normal backup a special media policy is specified. Will do more
checking on that this morning

Thank you all for helping with your suggestions

Well, since you've tried the command WRKMLMBRM I am going under the
assumption that you have BRMS. BRMS is all about the volume id.

I have not used DSPTAPCGY since I started using BRMS. There are a lot of
those type of commands I have written down when we first went to tape
libraries but didn't use BRMS.

Just to verify that the tape library can read you can try WRKMEDBRM
TYPE(*ACT) LOC(TAPMLB01) Once you find an active tape DSPTAP DEV(TAPMLB01)
VOL(XXXXXX) ENDOPT(*REWIND) replacing the x's by a valid volume id.

You may want to look at the SAVLIBBRM command versus the SAVLIB command
But
if you want to stick with the SAVLIB command instead of using *MOUNTED for
the volume id try entering one of the volume names currently in the
library.

Good morning

I got called into work on this to figure out what is wrong.

We had a tape library go bad and replaced the complete unit. It was varied
off before the swap and after the swap it was varied on. ALL looked ok.

The backup last night aborted so I have been looking at it today. It is
configured as 3580 library with a 3581 tape drive.

When I do a WRKMLMBRM the loaded tapes show the tapes are in *share400
category and one tape is Mounted

When I do WRKMLBSTS is shows the tap library as varied on

It shows the tap01 as operational and unprotected.

IF I do a DSPTAPCGY it shows many categories tied to the Serial number or
system name.

When I try and do a SAVLIB LIBA TAPMLB01 I get a CPF3794 I do an
F10
and it states the *MOUNTED is not correct

I have never worked with cartridge types before. How do I reset or
allocate
the cartridge to the new drive?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks
