But if folks don't have time to convert all their green screen apps to browser
Nathan (without the help of PA based products) the same thing surely applies
to their report programs. That's all I'm saying - that by omitting this part of
the picture from their solutions the OA vendors are missing an opportunity.

Of course the "right" way to do it is build from scratch - but we both know
that ain't gonna happen.

CONVERT OR RE-WRITE:

Plus, your users don't necessarily need more than the same thing converted to DDS. Sudden big changes aren't their favorite pastime.

Microsoft with their Windows versions and IBM recently with the infocenter changes got negative blowback when their interface changed too much all of a sudden.

Converting can be a way to move into outputting to the new interfaces. One recent job was at a healthcare software company that already did web-facing using (I think) J-Walk, but new stuff was GUI'd using Java on a Java server box that got data (and updated) using stored procedures on IBM i.

So converting from DDS to HTML, for example, also, gets your existing reports and screens into a format where you can do a LOT more than you can with the DDS "straightjacket".

We ALL (I hope) have already applied this kind of philosophy with RPG. When we do modifications to an RPG source member (RPG400/RPG3), we convert it first to RPGLE and work with that instead.
