I have just taken delivery of a POWER8 which I am partitioning…disk storage
will be achieved via IBM i hosting IBM i. When I designed the system using
the SPT I configured 8 virtual SCSI connections per partition i.e. 6 for
disk, 1 for optical and 1 for tape. I read an article on here that stated,
then emphasised, then re-emphasised the point of having enough virtual disk
arms…..my question is how many is too many as there must be a disadvantage
of having too many virtual SCSI connections, possibly memory and physical
disk utilisation on the hosting partition?
Let’s say I wanted to provide a partition 100GB…I could configure this as 5
x 20GB, 10 x 10GB or 20 x 5GB, which would give the best all-round
performance to both the hosting and hosted partition?
