Yes Alan.

Many moons ago when I still lived in England. I got tired of having to pay my operations folks overtime to produce the monthly detailed sales reports that I was convinced nobody actually read. So I had them printed but told the staff not to deliver them.

After 3 months someone from Sales came down to ask where they were - I explained what had happened and showed them the reports. They picked each one up, tore off the last page and started to walk out. I asked them if that was all they ever needed and they said yes. So we modified the programs to produce just the summaries. No more overtime!

I did however have a “friendly” discussion with the Sales Manager during which I pointed out that we weren’t psychic and that perhaps if they actually told us what they wanted/needed we could do a better job for them. As a result they subsequently asked for a whole bunch of statistical analysis which we were able to give them easily and still had operational time to spare. One happy customer - happy operators.

Anybody ever do the little exercise of just stopping printing a report and

Store it as PDF somewhere like Sharepoint or OneNote. We have automated

My opinion only but I don't think we should be generating reports on the
iSeries at all. That should be done in a GUI tool calling iSeries Stored
Procedures to get the data.

When you generate you can print, or make a PDF or whatever.
