Thanks for the links.
Beginning with the June 2014 IO announcement, it appears IBM is moving to larger sector disks, which are only supported on P8 and beyond.

What is interesting is the P8 will support both sector size disks, from what I read.
Here's a good link explaining the sector size differences.
I'm still searching for the same info for i5/OS.
