Take a look at the Report Designer product from Gumbo Software at http://www.gumbo.com/Licpgm/ReportDesigner.html

This product has a utility to convert between internally-described and externally-described printer specs.

I believe it was bought from another vendor that I used to work for. Interface is very like SDA, as I recall - much easier than RLU, which only deals with externally-described printer specs.

Once you get your stuff into DDS, you can work with it in RDi.

We've noticed that the PDFs tend to be very large, mainly the result of an extraordinarily large overlay. Any tricks for dealing with that?

As to the original query, I think it may be time for me to learn how to use externally-described print files. Any advice there?
