Thank you so much for the suggestions. Here's what ended up working for
me. We didn't have the original document used to create our overlay and
didn't really have the time to recreate it from scratch, so we scanned a
blank overlay into Photoshop to create a GIF file. JPEG didn't work for
some reason. I used a 600dpi image, and got the AFP Driver from the Ricoh
site so I could print to a file. For some reason the 300dpi printer
driver worked and 600dpi did not. So I'm guessing we actually saw some
degradation of quality since the 300dpi of the printer driver is the lowest
common denominator.
I inserted the scanned image into a MS Publisher publication, as this gave
me the best flexiblity with margins,etc. Printed this to the AFP file as
a .prn extension and then used iSeries Navigator's AFP overlay upload
feature to bring it up to the iSeries.
I did have to do some slight modification to the document so I modified the
image in MS Paint and that seemed to work well.
