Bill,
Here is the procedure that we recommend to our customers when creating an
AFP overlay:

I think you have to pre-build a file with specific configuration on the
IBM i side before sending the PRN file over. I see the following
instruction first:
CRTPF FILE(QGPL/AFPRES) RCDLEN(32766) MAXMBRS(*NOMAX) LVLCHK(*NO)
Then, using FTP, you do a BINary PUT to this file and then create the
overlay from it.
Good luck.

Hello all,
I'm having an issue with creating an AFP overlay on our iSeries. I
currently have a 600 DPI MS Word document (with an embedded JPEG) that I'm
using as my basis for creating a new overlay on the iSeries. I have both a
300 and a 600 DPI AFP driver set up (the generic InfoPrint one) and I print
the document to a 600 DPI .prn file. Then I've tried both importing the
file into an overlay via iSeries Navigator and FTPing the .prn file up to
the iSeries and then using the CRTOVL command. Both methods yield the
following error:
File not valid for creating an *OVL. Reason code is 02.
The text for reason code 02 is:
2 - The structured field identifier in the incoming data for the printer
resource is not correct or is not supported. The error was detected while
processing record 1, byte number 17. The structured field which is not
correct may be caused by a length that is not correct on the previous
structure field. The structured field which was being processed at the time
is '5A0010D3A8C6'X.
Is it that I can't use 600 DPI? Is it that I'm using a JPEG? I tried
doing it straight from the JPEG and also from embedding it in a Word doc
and then trying to create the overlay from that.
Any help/suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks!
Bill
