Is a recent respin of v5r4 even available? All I know about is the
original I_BASE_01 from 2006. No idea where that might even be located.
Bad story.

No fiber card. No idea what is even available on SAN. Trying to be
prepared.

If IBM supports 3590 based on time and materials, is this even a problem?
Only failure, so far, has been single disk, on two ocassions. Maybe a
power supply. I don't want to be an alarmist, but want to make sure the
bases are covered as best as possible, for the short period remaining.

Always keep a copy of the I_BASE_01 CD, ensuring it's a recent respin.
There are numerous tape libraries that cannot be used as an alternate IPL
device.

IBM, and other companies, are often willing to charge you Time and
Material to fix a tape device. Look in the neighborhood of $250/hr plus
parts. You may want to research ebay for a used model.

I don't think you can map NFS to a PC server and use that for virtual
tape.

Do you have a fiber card for your 520? Does your san tape offer switch
connectivity to it?

We are apparently entering the home stretch on using the 520. I received
an email that refers to extending hardware maintenance for 6 momths into
2015. The only gotcha is that the 3590 is not included.

Is there any resource for 3590 maintenance, should it be needed, in what
may be the last six months? Currently, it is used weekly for backup, a
tad
over 100G.

I had wondered about the possibility of performing a SAVE 21 to a SAN. I
do not know if our SAN would be acceptable (to our 520 at v5r4), or how
(if
needed) an IPL could be performed.

Any thoughts or links?
