The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.
If you know of an easy to use, open source, search engine ... please contact support@midrange.com.
If in BRMS when you do the ADDTAPCTG command you allow IBM i to mount the
tape and check the label, you will see the write status from there on.
Your suggestion is nice and I like it, but I don't see it happening anytime
soon.

Subject: RE: DSPTAPCTG, tape library, and write protect tab
What would it take to get the write protect status without having to load
each tape? A redesign of tape libraries so that when LTOx came out not only
would it scan the barcode label on each volume but it would also check the
reflectivity of the write protect tab? At a minimum it would take new
library firmware. It may even take physical modifications to the loader.
