Gentlemen gentleman that brute force stuff is so last year. :-)
Check out API QTARCTGI. This guy returns a handy dandy list of every tape
in the library and a long list of attributes. They include the write
protect status, if it's a cleaning tape, the LTO number, the slot number
and more.
If you are interested I can send you a CL program that you can compile and
run which will send the list and a bunch of the fields to your joblog. Of
course utilizing it in a program is more useful.
The program combines many of the new CL features including DOFOR, Based
variables, Defined variables and yes Pointers. Warning I'm a hardware guy.
