they are Rob. the reason i want uniformity is for the reporting tool. it
will group on one field this way.

First of all are the number, and attributes of all columns the same

than column name)?
IOW, if
- bytes A thru B are for order number (irregardless of what each table
calls the column)
- bytes B+1 thru C are for part number (irregardless of what each table
calls the column)
- bytes C+1 thru D are for shipped quantity (irregardless of what each
table calls the column)
- bytes D+1 thru E are for net dollar amount (irregardless of what each
table calls the column)
and so on
then you might be able to use FMTOPT(*NOCHK).

I have 2 files that I want to join and use as 1. the data is about 9
columns
like
order#, part#, shipped qty, net$
in one file the fields are ouord#, the other would be odord# etc.
when i do cpyf *nochk, it does not copy the data of the second.
Would it work if i create a new table that will receive the files from
both.
I seem to be missing some thing with mapping. should i do map and nochk
does it move the data of odord# to ouord# col ( the first example)
or better to copy into a new table with diff col names?
