OK to first test the connection use the APING (appc ping) command.

If that works with out problems you are ok to use the SAVRST* commands.
you could also setup SNADS CFGDSTSRV which would allow for SNDNETF, SBMNETJOB, SNDNETMSG, etc. commands

There are certain commands that were made for APPC that are very useful.
