Heh. One of my colleagues has done some of this already to overcome the
shortcomings of the HP software. He's even gone so far as to have one of his
spare PC's watching the dozens of Remedy tickets that get created. When one
gets created, his macro looks up the on-call person and assigns the ticket
to him. This prevents escalations from being created and the initiation of
"hair on fire" panic calls from the "Global Command Center" in the middle of
the night.
In the morning, we just look at the meaningless tickets and cancel them.

How hard would be to do a home grown system with some of the new 7.1 and 7.2
features.
I' actually have our own program now sending the MPLUS notifications.
All I need is a program to monitor QSYSOPR, QSYSMSG, and QHST

One of my clients is in the same boat (17 LPARS on 5 boxes). Their solution
was to buy some HP software called EView. It sends emails and text messages,
and creates tickets automatically into the Remedy help-desk database.
There are ladies present, so I shall refrain from commenting further.

When you have 3 boxes with a total of 14 lpars of IBM i it starts to add up
into some serious change. And you have to watch that annual maintenance in
addition to initial price.

Rob,
I'm running MPLUS/ MESSENGER Console on two LPARS.
Price for 2nd LPAR was only 1/3.

We're currently using Messenger Plus. However we really want to run it on
more lpars and boxes and the price is stunning. Probably because Robot
owns them now. I want to look at alternatives. I'd rather avoid LXI as
their crappy service is why we switched from them to Messenger Plus.
