I think it's a bad idea to have the trigger program attempt to display any
kind of UI...

If your looking for quick & dirty...I'd have the trigger program fix the
issue if possible or allow the "wrong" value while logging and notifying
somebody about it.

Would you accept the idea of the trigger program (or the program called
by the trigger program) trying the 5250 response, and if that fails, try a
web based response, and if that fails try the next kind of response?

It seems that crafted correctly, these solutions become more or less
generic and easily implemented with new files and new triggers. Especially
if all you are doing is sending a message to a user and not manipulating
data.

One thing I learned is that, for my style, the trigger program itself
should be very small, very generic, and only do traffic cop work.

I tried Booth's suggestion of outputting messages to a Window overlay
defined in the Trigger. That works well for 5250 clients such as DFU and
STRSQL. But what about Web and PC application clients?
