Yes, you can report quite a bit of information at the carton level - Pack level in 856 terms. You would use the SAC segment to report any charges. Do you have access to the EDI standards? They will show everything that can be sent on any EDI document.
Of course making it all work properly depends on what systems you're using and their capabilities. Here, we use JD Edwards World and Trusted Link. It can be a challenge at times meeting all of our trading partners' requirements.

The 856s I have been sending are pretty much shipment versions of an 850.
Where the LIN and SN1 segments of the 856 match up with the PO1 segments of the 850. And tracking numbers are sent in REF segments or in MAN segments at the P Package HL level of the 856.
I want to include the shipping charge for each package in the 856.
But also more detail as to the contents of each carton being shipped. Can the 856 be used for carton level detail?
