There was an update to this doc dated 05/14. Probably hasn't changed much since John got his copy. I'm curious though, it says:

5) Dual VIOS with IBM"i" for v7.1.0 and above & VIOS 2.2 and above is supported.
6) Virtual SCSI or vSCSI virtualization is supported.
7) We do not support vFC/NPIV with IBM"i" clients due to 520 block size.

So without NPIV, Dual VIOS would just let IBM i mirror two (sets) of vSCSI disks?

Thanks John, that was my suspicion. I'll see if there's an update to that doc...

I did setup our IBM I servers to use Hitachi storage and prior to setup I contacted them in 2011 to make sure I could use their storage arrays. They sent me a document titled: IBM I Support Document 03_25_11.pdf.
In that document it said: We do not support vFC/NPIV with IBM i clients due to 520 block size. You may have to contact Hitachi to find out of that has changed in the past 3 years. I ended up setting up vSCSI as vSCSI virtualization is supported by Hitachi with a VIOS.

Subject: Attaching Hitachi HUS VM to IBM i LPARs

Our company currently uses Hitachi HUS VM for storage for AIX LPARs. Now we are looking at a new P8 machine(s) to replace a boxes that houses a total of 10 IBM LPARs and the question came up, why don't we use storage in the Hitachi subsystem for this new box. The official Hitachi line is that HUS VM supports storage as presented to VIOS, but I can't find any confirmation that it supports NPIV to LUNs to IBM i LPARs. In addition, since the Hitachi subsystem here already has replication set up to our DR site, we could discontinue using iTERA for replication. Has anyone here used Hitachi storage to attach to IBM i and/or with replication? Any experience to share?

Thanks
Dana
