I get some pretty impressive backup speeds on my network based LTO-5 drives.--
Besides 1.5/3 Terabyte tapes are only $26
I think the RDX cartridges are still relatively expensive when compared to a regular hard drive in a removable dock, but it's a different horse as well from what it sounds like.
Don't suppose a BlackX USB Dock can hook up to the I nowadays can it ?

Personally I think comparing to the times of saving to save files isn't too impressive.
A decent LTO3 or above tape drive, with enough processor to drive it, will often blow the doors off of saving to save files.
This isn't 1970. Disk isn't always faster than tape. Especially when you're using the same disk controller, set of arms, etc to write the data as are reading the data.
