DLPAR is a perfectly fine way of sharing a FC.
However, if you have multiple lpars, and your tape library supports
multiple drives, you will experience longer outages waiting in turn for
use of the FC than if you virtualized it using VIOS, and could then back
up multiple lpars at once.
It's your business decision to make.
