Sue,

<IBM i can virtualize SAS attached tape devices to other IBM i LPARs. (As can VIOS.)>

What are the IBM I virtualization options (host and/or guest) for fiber attached tape, 577D?

I'd like to do a test BRMS recovery to a guest LPAR.
The host currently does not have a 577D, but I could DLPAR from another if needed.

Paul

Soooo can you load VIOS on top of an IBM i Host?

No, the other way around. VIOS does VSCSI or NPIV storage to an IBM i which in turns hosts that for another IBM i.

VIOS cannot have any VIRTUAL resources assigned to it.

NPIV tape requires VIOS. IBM i does not do NPIV as that is virtualizing an ADAPTER not a DEVICE.

IBM i can virtualize SAS attached tape devices to other IBM i LPARs. (As can VIOS.)
