I do it all the time. Works fine, both magic jack and Vonage.

I'm not so sure. My Dell AIO fax specifically said it wouldn't work with
VOIP connections.

Other hardware may have similar problems.

Magic Jack works with faxes, eh? Never thought of that. It's send only, we
don't receive any via 5798-FAX. But it would still need a modem attached to
the i, wouldn't it?

My original post talked about the phone line, but in the scenario I'm
thinking of there would be no modem on the i either.

Almost,

Get a Magic Jack (don't laugh it's works and is cheap!) Now you don't
have to change the software etc, the IBM i still thinks it has a POTS
line.

The other option is a Vonage account. It's more expensive but also more
robust. Larry and I both use Vonage with no real issues.

All,

We use 5798-FAX to fax many of our purchase orders. That product
faxes a specified spool file with confirmation that it completed, but
requires a phone line (or extension).

Is there a way to fax spool files via the internet instead of over a
phone line? I don't see where 5798-FAX has this ability.

Thanks.
