Magic Jack works with faxes, eh? Never thought of that. It's send only,
we don't receive any via 5798-FAX. But it would still need a modem
attached to the i, wouldn't it?

My original post talked about the phone line, but in the scenario I'm
thinking of there would be no modem on the i either.

Almost,

Get a Magic Jack (don't laugh it's works and is cheap!) Now you don't
have to change the software etc, the IBM i still thinks it has a POTS line.

The other option is a Vonage account. It's more expensive but also more
robust. Larry and I both use Vonage with no real issues.

Subject: Can IBM i fax over internet

All,

We use 5798-FAX to fax many of our purchase orders. That product faxes a
specified spool file with confirmation that it completed, but requires a
phone line (or extension).

Is there a way to fax spool files via the internet instead of over a phone
line? I don't see where 5798-FAX has this ability.

Thanks.
