PRTERRLOG output to printer vs outfile -- MIDRANGE-L

This command:

PRTERRLOG

results in a printout with no entries.

This command:

PRTERRLOG OUTPUT(*OUTFILE) OUTFILE(JEFF/PRTERRLOG)

results in an outfile with 37 entries.

Why would I get different results? The timeframe defaults to the current
date. Shouldn't they be the same?

Incidentally, all 37 entries reference the tape drive during this morning's
System i backup.
