I seem to recall mine showing life of 800-900 days after replacement.

No way they were yearly, or even close to that.

I shake my head in disgust every time I'm forced to replace one of these.

This is still one of the dumbest design decisions ever made by IBM and I get
reminded of it every year :-)

I have Dell Servers that are 4+ years old with no cache battery issues ever
on the disk controllers.

Has this been improved on the newer equipment ?

So I'm looking for that date in the future when Richard posts: "My power
blipped for just a second and the system crashed. When i went to bring it
up, it complains that it needs to clear the ASP. What happened??"

FWIW.

Probably not recommended practice but.............

I had a cache battery go out that was less than a year old or so it
seemed.

Brought down the system, removed battery for 2 minutes, put it back in and
it's running fine.

Not totally convinced these batteries need replacement every year :-)

Did you do a WRKDSKSTS
