In the POWER Systems SAS era all the new drives are the same
for IBM i and AIX and VIOS. They are NOT the same code as for
SAN or xSeries world.
DrF ... had you not mentioned my name, I would have remained

I will caution people there are some Power Systems SAS drives
with AIX features that cannot be utilized by IBM i as they have
incorrect VPD (Vital Product Data) on them. Unfortunately, you
cannot know if a specific drive is one of these critters until
you actually try to reformat for use by IBM i because the part
numbers on the label do not give an indication of what VPD was
loaded on the drive. I know this from experience with a set of
300GB 10K RPM drives I acquired and attempted to place into an i
LPAR.
