IBM's i Access Client Solutions, the Java version of IBM i Access features,
can be uploaded to and run on the IBM i.

It provides the Data Transfer components (file download / upload). You can
run the rudimentary data transfers on the IBM i, the same as you can on a PC
using the Data Transfer programs. You can export to an Excel file, CSV, and
other files types that are supported by the Data Transfer program. Under the
covers, the IBM i Access Data Transfer uses the POI code that is used in
Scott's code. The downside of the Data Transfer approach is that it does not
support any customization of the resulting Excel file, just simple headers
with rows/columns.

On the other hand, this could provide a "no programming" approach that can
be easily automated.
