From the 7.1 BRMS manual, page 86:

I save every night with BRMS to virtual tape on one lpar. What's the
status of my virtual tape right now?
Image ASP Device
Catalog Status Type Threshold Device Status
VRTCLG Not ready Tape *CALC

Apparently BRMS knows what virtual images I have set up, and "loads" them
itself when desired.
Makes sense?

Vern is correct.
Just put this in the startup program.
LODIMGCLG IMGCLG(xxxxxxxxxx) DEV(TAPVRTXX)

This assumes you are loading a virtual tape.

This has been working for us for a long time.

Hi Jeff

I think that, because multiple image catalogs can be loaded, one at a
time, to a virtual optical device, that it isn't a simple matter of
saying a certain image catalog should be loaded - it'd be a combination
of varying on a device and loading that image catalog.

For now, maybe the startup program is the ticket.

But this might be a nice candidate for a requirement - www.common.org -
community option on the menu on top, etc.
