Absolutely you probably don't need an additional product for it unless you were to purchase a VTL appliance such as Sphinx.

In fact I don't believe I ever mentioned productizing it....Yet........... :-)

However it could get klunky if you're going to be mounting/unmounting and shuttling tape files to a NAS or SAN regularly which I plan to do.

Then it goes beyond one time set up.

Mainly I was just was trying to determine if I should re-work my own internal backup schema to use virtual tapes rather than save files once I realized that I could do this on V5R4 and above and that it seemed pretty cool.

Richard's right. It has went way off topic. I should have changed the subject line.
Vern, thank you for your response. That was important.

Back on topic, I really do not think that setting up virtual tape is rocket science and that you need a product to do it.

But, perhaps others do. I am sure Scott Klement thinks that setting up sftp isn't rocket science and that you don't need an additional product to do it. However I purchased GoAnywhere for inbound sftp and we use Arpeggio for outbound sftp.

Sound fair, Richard?
