Just updated to the lastest via the HMC, XXXX-127 (dont remember the major
version), but it's obviously a hardware failure. 9117-MMA is the same exact
power6 hardware, both have the same 3 models of processor assemblies. I've
been told i might get to go to one of IBM's recon centers and rummage about
to see if i can find the replacement (machine was bought AS-IS from ibm) so
i might get it operational again.
I really doubt i can just fire it up without one of the assemblies, i
assume it might need at least a filler or better yet a dummy (with
terminators for all the connections) and that is if it the machine is even
able to work without one of those.

Best Regards,

Roberto

Not really sure what the difference is between a 9406-MMA and our Power 6

I see the same procedure you do when I research it.
I don't know of anyway to bypass it.
Is the system firmware current? What level are you at?

Subject: Quick and dirty solution for 9406-MMA?
Sent by: midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx

I've been playing with a nice lot of machines, i tried to start playing
with the biggest one, a 9406-MMA (power6) but the dangers of buying
hardware AS-IS finally reared their head.
HMC sees it fine, updates firmware OK but any time it attempts to start it
ends with a 1100 8414 src. That SRC is "bad vpd" and the PIP points to 2nd
processor assembly. Since i dont have another MMA around to test and the
manual doesnt specify...
Is there any way to bypass said assy? I havent seen a 550 or 570 without
both processor assemblies, even when they had 1 or less processors
activated so i doubt the system can run without, but nonetheless i ask
anyways: "Is there a way to bypass or otherwise run without the second
processor assembly?" i was tempted to just take it out and start the
machine but i'm waiting to see if i can get my hands on another assembly
and test again...

Best Regards!
