Which 520?
POWER6 8203-E4A
POWER5 9405-520

Per this link:
http://www-947.ibm.com/systems/support/i/planning/upgrade/v7r1/hardware.html

7.1 is supported on both...

If it were me, I'd certainly start with an upgrade to 7.1. Then you can
migrate the data to a new system.

However, with only 10 users...I'd be looking at a hosted solution. I'd be
surprised if they were using much of their current capacity. Let alone what
they would have available with a new box.

Would probably be much more cost effective to get a small LPAR from a
hosting company. Especially if the hosting company can improve DR
preparedness or anything.

I have a customer that has a 520. The owner of the company likes to buy a
new system every 5 or so years. They are a little late but they came to me

I don't even know where to start. It's a small company with 10 green
screen users so I'm sure the lowest capacity new system would be plenty.
They run a LANSA website, some EDI, and Townsends secure FTP product.

I asked another customers vendor and he said "just upgrade that system to
7.1".

Is it not possible to buy a new system and upgrade the software anymore J

Thanks, Jack
