Message ID CPFAF98 points to an exit program. Are you running anti-virus software on the IBM i?
Message ID . . . . . . . . . : CPFAF98
Message file . . . . . . . . : QCPFMSG
Library . . . . . . . . . : QSYS
Message . . . . : Job &6/&5/&4 stopped processing MSF message.
Cause . . . . . : Exit point program &3 in library &2 for exit point &7 has
detected a condition with message &1. The message indicates that processing
should be ended. The MSF message will be processed again the next time the
Start Mail Server Framework (STRMSF) command is used.
Recovery . . . : Determine why the exit point program indicated that
processing for a message is to be ended. There may be messages listed in the
job log that caused the exit point program to fail. Correct the error and
use the End Mail Server Framework (ENDMSF) command to end all MSF jobs. Then
use the Start Mail Server Framework (STRMSF) command to start message
processing again.

Subject: SMTP server
Hi all,
I haven't configured smtp server on IBM i yet (i prefer to dabble with VIOS and Dual VIOS yet) so i dont know how a working smtp/msf enviroment looks like. But... on an already working and heavely used smtp/msf system, suddenly smtp doesnt start. MSF does but a test snddst mail (that on the joblog appears as sent) creates CPFAF98 errors on qhst.
I've tried stopping MSF, stopping the SMTP server (not that it's running) and then:
strtcpsvr *smtp
strmsf *reset
But netstat confirms that nothing is listening. Also, QTSMTPSRVD (which i assume is the smtp daemon) starts and ends with a joblog that consist of ".."
In a few hours i get the machine and i'll do what i shouldn't have to do, IPL.
System is v5r4 last updated somewhere last year, i'm waiting to install ptfs on it, but if it was working until yesterday i doubt it's PTF related.
Any tips regarding this (besides, stop using it and migrate to one of the various free alternatives, which i've peddled here already) is welcome.
Thanks!
