IBM Systems Director is different from IBM Navigator for i .... although
the beginning of that reference Webcast does review both to clarify the
differences.

Definitely look at using Navigator for i if you haven't already; be sure to
have the latest PTFs installed.
There's a lot of new function that's been added to this over the past
couple years.
I agree with Jim O - try it, you'll like it.

There was a COMMON webcast which covered some parts of this:

From June 27, 2013
IBM Systems Director for the IBM i Environment
Speaker: Dawn May, IBM

The IBM Systems Director has great value as a management tool in an
environment that includes IBM i systems and partitions. This session will
cover what Systems Director can monitor in IBM i, how IBM Systems Director
Navigator integrates, the relationship to native IBM i
 management tools
and the basics for understanding the required agents for full
functionality.

Try going to this:
http://youribmi:2001
replace youribmi with the name of your lpar of IBM i.
If it says "IBM Navigator for i" with a lot of IBM blue around it and a
blue circle with "i for business", you're on the new version.
