Happy birthday to our favorite operating system and it's supporting
hardware! 25 years ago today IBM Announced the merger of the best parts
of the S/38 and the S/36 and delivered the AS/400. Since that day
programs complied on that machine can still be run with NO changes and
NO Compiles, what other architecture can even get close?? And all the
while it's capabilities and strengths continue to grow.
Today we all know it as IBM i on Power Systems. No matter what slips
from between your lips our 'universal translators' as IBM i Chief
Architect Steve Will calls it, will know what you're talking about.
For 20 of those years this list and others at midrange.com, have been a
part of the community! Happy 20th to Midrange.com and Thank You to David
for putting up with us!!
Let's make the next 25 years all about what's right with this most
amazing platform. Let's celebrate it's capabilities, let's suggest to
IBM what it should be able to do or do better. Let's encourage each
other to make use of the new features while looking back and smiling at
some of the things we used to think were 'pretty cool'.
