I worked on a big S/3 Mod 15D in Aberdeen, Scotland. It had four Winchester drives and a tape unit, all of which were washing machine size. The 5 units all lined up on a raised floor with a walk space between them and the S/3. 4 3741's and their operators surrounded that complex. I couldn't understand those ladies' Scottish accent to begin with, and above the din of all that machinery whirring, I could never make out what they were trying to tell me.

3340s (Winchesters) could be used on the S/3?!? That doesn't sound right; they were (like the 3330 Merlins) for the 370, the 303x, and the 43xx.
