At the risk of being pedantic - one more thing -
An iASP is an ASP - an Auxiliary Storage Pool. A collection of disk arms under a name or number.
That's the starting point - just to be clear on a bright, sunny day!!
Unlike standard ASPs, which have characteristics like overflowing into the main ASP when full, IASPs are limited - when you run out of room, you run out of room. Also, IASPs are almost like a partition - when you vary on the ASP device, you get a lot of the IPL stuff, like the system database catalog.
This last bit is another of the benefits of IASPs - you can speed up an IPL when you don't vary on an IASP at IPL but put it off for a bit. Then you are up and running sooner.
Cheers
