Sure would be a nicer effect if both empty subjects and /Digest/
subjects would be rejected entirely from the lists; i.e. such messages
should not reach any of: anyone on the mailing lists, the archives, or
the NewsServer. While not requiring the poster to send a message with a
/proper/ subject, it would force the participant to make an effort to
make a /correction/ to the "Subject:" of their new-message or
reply-message before their message will be shared with anyone. It seems
that the News Server already has been updated to reject empty subjects;
albeit still accepting empty "Re:" messages.
Even if the Digests would have an End-Of-Message (EOM) inserted at
the top of the message to improve the chances that the entire digest
would not get copied into the archives, I infer from the effects seen
whereby so many message replies have simply quoted the EOM followed by
the mailing-list descriptive text [i.e. "This is the Midrange Systems
Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list..."], that the effect of
an EOM would be just as unhelpful as the EOM that precedes that text
describing the list being used.
